Happiness and Positive Thinking

Quotes from Paramahansa Yogananda:

"You have the power to hurt yourself or benefit yourself. If you do not choose to be happy, no one else can make you happy. Do not blame God for that! And if we are happy, no one can make us unhappy....it is we who make life what it is."

"Do not make unhappiness a chronic habit, thereby affecting yourself and your associates. It is blessedness for yourself and others if you are happy.
If you possess happiness, you possess everything; to be happy is to be in tune with God. That power of happiness comes through Meditation."

Quote from Shiva Baba

"So karma is not just a metaphysical philosophy. It is real. Whatever you think becomes a reality in the invisible space-time complex of your soul and then this manifests in life after an appropriate lapse of time. That's why it is very, very important to be positive. We should have only positive thoughts. If there are negativ thoughts, we do not know what danger they may inflict upon us in this life and in the life to come, because the thought process is what creates karma.

  1. i like the first quote. it seems logical that should we seek to blame God for our unhappiness that we would make the same efforts to give thanks in times of happiness but that is not always the case. when the ego is allowed to dictate our thoughts, we take all the credit when things are going well, yet thrust the blame on the entirety of the universe when we are unhappy, tirelessly seeking the enemy responsible!

meditation provides a method for us to see our true nature, observe unhappiness, and transform those experiences into ones of growth, wisdom, and bliss.

  2. I feel similarly to JP! I was reading the first quote and thinking that had so much ton do with a lot of our conversations of late. It is selfish to blame God for one's own unhappiness. Anytime I even question God I feel guilty inside because I already know the answer and root source. I have become a true believer in the amount of happiness or negativity one can feel is infinite. What I wonder about the last quote is how I can train myself....because sometimes negative thoughts seem to flash like lightning bolts before I even know they are there!
