Holy Feet

Feet have different symbolic feeling depending on culture, but they are usually associated with the ugly, lower, or dirty sides of a person. In Thailand it is considered very disrespectful to walk over someone or even point your feet at them. Some people are even so disgusted by their own feet that they leave their shoes on all day, even in their own house.

From the Yoga perspective, a wise disciple keeps the feet of their Guru on their heads at all times. Yoga is process of integration and purification. Since the Guru is the Perfection of Yoga personified, surely his or her Feet would be of pristine purity. It can be taken so far that the feet on the Guru is indeed holier and more purified than the Crown or highest point of the disciple.

There is also esoteric meaning. The feet are ending point for all the subtle channels (nadis or meridians). The entire 3 dimensional map of the body can call be expressed 2 dimensionally in the soles of one's feet.

Hence, the Guru's feet will bestow the grace of their entire being upon us (if we are humble enough to accept)

The Buddha's feet are often depicted in art and show his perfected qualities.

WARNING: The Buddha was NOT a NAZI. The Swastika is a symbol of peace and evolution.

I remember when I was very young I used to love to just be in the living room with my Father as he would sit on his chair reading the newspaper. This mysterious man who seemed to know everything and was always lost in the newspaper. One day I noticed his feet on the floor and something told me to go over and touch it. Being so drawn into the newspaper, he didn't even notice I was playing with his feet, but his feet did. They moved all around trying to avoid my curious fingers. Finally, the sensation broke his concentration and he pulled his feet away and said, "Stop it." In that short moment of time between my discovering his feet and him pulling them away, I communicated directly with his feet.
